SLS Railroad

The Scottsdale Live Steamers club was incorporated in 2001 as a non-profit organization for the enjoyment of scale model railroading.  We are located at the McCormick-Stillman Railroad park in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Our present layout has approximately 3,500 feet of 7.5" gauge track.  It can be best described as a figure eight layout that crosses over itself.  The crossover point is our short tunnel that everyone enjoys.  This allows members to make two loops on the layout before returning to the station.  We also have an inner loop for smaller trains.

Because of planned expansion at the McCormick-Stillman railroad park, our current layout is undergoing many changes.  The present location of our railroad storage barn and clubhouse sits in the middle of the newly planned Model Railroad Museum that is due to be completed in October of 2010.  Through the hard work and dedication of the Scottsdale Railroad and Mechanical Society, as well as the City of Scottsdale, we are fortunate to be moving into a brand new railroad storage building.  The new building will allow storage of more equipment with track space of over 1,100 feet.  Below are photos of the construction process, including the finished building.  All that is left to do is get the track run into the building.  Next time you are in the park, stop by and have a look.

Because of the design of our new storage facility, we are able to store two levels of equipment.  We have upper bays that are taller for engines, steamers and other cars.  Passenger cars and gondolas are stored on the lower level.  We will have a two-level transfer table to access each bay.  Below is a diagram of the new storage facility.
